Frequently Asked Questions
Is this kit right for my cabinet material?
Use on solid wood or genuine wood veneer. An MDF, plywood or particleboard core is suitable only if the outer paint surface is real-wood veneer. Do not paint directly onto laminate, melamine, foil wrap or plastic film. If the material is unclear, check the door specification or send us photos before ordering.
Should I refresh the cabinets or replace them?
A painted refresh suits cabinets with sound boxes, stable doors and a layout you want to keep. It changes the appearance but does not repair swollen panels, rot or structural damage. Compare the complete project cost: paint, required preparation materials, any compatible primer, tools and your time.
Do I need to clean, sand or prime first?
Yes to thorough cleaning and appropriate surface preparation. Remove grease, wax, loose coatings and sanding dust before painting; do not rely on a no-prep shortcut. Prepare glossy or failing finishes and test a small area. Use a compatible stain-blocking primer where tannins, knots or persistent stains require it.
Will wood grain show through the paint?
It can. Oak and other open-grain woods may remain textured after painting, especially under side lighting. Paint changes color but does not automatically fill deep grain. Test the chosen color and preparation on an inconspicuous area to judge the result.
Can yellow or brown stains show through light colors?
Yes. Tannins, knots, old stains and contamination can show through white or light paint. Clean and prepare the surface, then test. If discoloration appears, stop and confirm a compatible stain-blocking primer before continuing. Extra coats alone are not a reliable stain-blocking solution.
Can I paint over stained or varnished cabinets?
Do not paint straight over an unprepared stain, varnish or polyurethane finish. Remove failing layers and prepare the remaining finish as directed. Check adhesion and appearance in a small hidden area before painting every door; a sound-looking glossy surface still needs preparation.
How do I measure the project and choose a quantity?
Add the actual surfaces you will paint: door fronts and backs, edges, drawer fronts, frames and exposed panels. For example, a 2 ft × 3 ft door needs 12 sq. ft. of coverage for its two faces before edges. Account for all required coats and the surface condition. Send your measurements for help choosing the number of 1 kg kits; do not estimate from kitchen floor area.
When can I close doors and clean the finish?
Follow the current product label for recoating, handling and curing. Keep freshly painted contact surfaces apart and allow curing before normal closing, hardware installation or cleaning. Touch dry is not the same as fully cured. Cooler or more humid conditions can extend the wait.
Do I need a clear topcoat, and what is included?
The current 1 kg cabinet paint kit includes paint and application tools. Check the selected kit contents for your project; repair materials, masking supplies or a compatible stain-blocking primer may be needed separately. A clear topcoat is not an automatic requirement: confirm the specific product compatibility and recoat window before using one. After curing, clean gently with a soft cloth and mild cleaner.
